Click image to view full size.A barn in Southern Wisconsin that was home to a herd of dairy cows has been transformed into a toy train museum. The barn is owned by Wisconsin & Southern / Wisconsin & Calumet Engineer Buck Guthrie. He is a lifelong collector of American Flyer Trains as well as other toy trains.

During the past year the barn has been remodelled to house Buck's large collection and layouts. The Toy Train Barn opened for public display this past December. Operating display layouts range from tiny Z scale to G scale along with tin plate and depression era toy trains. The largest layout is the American Flyer S gauge collection. The layout features numerous animated action scenes many created from Buck's ingenuity with electronics and creative imagination. There is also a large collection of photos and railroad memorabilia from Buck's career as a Engineer and Conductor.

Jan Guthrie has created a game card for Toy Train Barn visitors to play. Jan's " I Spy " game gives visitors clues to hunt for scenes and various details among the many train layouts. The game has been popular with many guests since being introduced. Be sure to ask for a free game card when visiting the Toy Train Barn..

The A&ERR is built on 18 scenic hilly acres (near the highest point in Green County) that include a natural springs and creek. The Argyle & Eastern Railroad will feature a turntable, water tower, depots. There are many curves and trestles, semaphore signals, wig-wags etc. when completed.

Summer projects for the Argyle & Eastern include finishing construction of a wye track which was started last year and also adding a runaround track that will also connect with the turntable.

The Argyle & Eastern has also recently added a second depot located on the North Loop Track. Buck plans to add a clock tower and a covered platform to the new depot soon. Numberous little pine trees have been planted along the Argyle Zephyr Route during the past couple of
weeks.

Inside the Toy Train Barn there have also been a few new changes. The Dylan Guthrie N scale layout has doubled in size recently and the American Flyer layout countinues to grow and change as well.
