Amtrak to expand service to Janesville, Fond du Lac

Fond du Lac, Janesville and Walworth County would get new passenger train service under a nationwide Amtrak expansion plan announced Monday by Gov. Tommy G. Thompson. Click here to see the rest of the story.

WHRC Adds New "CHAT Page" To its Web Site

I never thought I would do it. I don't even like the thought of chatting! But when I seen this neat little gismo, I wanted to give it a try. Click here to check it out. You should be able to "chat" with anyone else who is on the page. You will be assigned a guest name. You can change your name to anything you want to. Have fun.

WHRC Adds New "Polling Page" Sections To its Web Site

A new section was added to the WHRC web site. Its called "WHRC Poll" . The purpose of this page is to let you, a valued WHRC site used have a say in what you would like to see.

WSOR Adds New "Excursion Report" Sections To Their Web Site

A new section was added to the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad web site. Its called "Excursion Reports" and features trip reports and stories from various railroad excursions happening on the WSOR. You will find passenger excursions and other interesting reports there. Click here to check it out.

Be sure to check out the latest excursion page to see when the next excursion will be available.

Thompson Bullish On Amtrak Here

Amtrak passenger train service could return to the Fox Valley and Green Bay as early as 2004, three years before the state Department of Transportation estimates, according to Gov. Tommy Thompson. See the WHRC news section for the complete story.

More news on the status of the railroad bridge in Sauk City, WI.

There is much talk about  the Sauk City bridge and the Merrimac River bridge. Are both these bridges necessary? Much depends on whether the Badger Army Ordinance Plant will ship all the contaminated dirt they want to.

In July of 1984, Golden Arrow offered passenger excursions from Madison, WI to Boscobel, WI.   Craig Bluschke provided pictures and a story about this excursion. Click here to check it out.

Railroad Bridge at Sauk City, WI May Be Replaced This Spring

I have heard from a reliable source that the repairs for the ex Milwaukee Road bridge at Sauk City may be taking place this coming spring.

December 21st, 1999

Wisconsin Central RR Considers Reactivating Wiouwash State Trail.

A major portion of the Wiouwash State Trail between Oshkosh and Hortonville could return to its original use as a corridor for freight trains under a concept being considered by the Wisconsin Central Transportation Corp. Click here for the story.


December 19th, 1999

The BNSF and the CN Railroad merger is official.

I just received this from Dennis Daniels in an e-mail Sunday night.

"I was at work tonight in the yard at Amory, MS. The yardmaster and I were talking about the article in the Journal of Commerce when we received a call for Kansas City notifying us that the merger would be announced Monday morning. The new name, North American Railway Company. I hope that they can come up with a good paint scheme. Maybe orange and white."  Click here for more information!


December 16th, 1999

December 9th, 1999
The rail removal crew finishes at the UW Campus. This means the end of the IC in Dane and Green County. Click here for additional information in the new section on Page 6 detailing the Ex-IC railroad removal.


December 5th, 1999
While attempting to remove the Ex-IC railroad, a large piece of construction machinery fall off one of the railroad trestles north of Belleville Sunday morning, Dec. 5th, 1999. Click here to see the picture and read the story. More information will be available as it comes in.


December 1st, 1999

November 25, 1999
The National Millennium Christmas Tree will travel from Wisconsin to Washington DC by rail on Amtrak. Read more about this in the WHRC News section.


November 24, 1999

Byron, Ill Motorcar excursion. Great Lakes Motorcars had their motorcar excursion in Byron, Ill on Saturday, October 31, 1999.

Updated the US Railroad Frequency database.
